Catholic Campaign for Human Development
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is the domestic anti-poverty program of the U.S. Catholic Bishops, working to break the cycle of poverty by helping low-income people participate in decisions that affect their lives, families and communities. CCHD aims to help the church carry out the mission of Jesus Christ "... to bring good news to the poor ... release to captives ... sight to the blind, and let the oppressed go free." (Luke 4:18). The annual collection occurs in the fall and 25% of funds received stay local, benefiting organizations within our diocese who apply for grants through our application process. From 2023-2024, over $65,000 in grants have been awarded to 20 local organizations, including:
- Food pantries, such as St. Vincent de Paul chapters
- Resource centers for persons with disabilities
- Resource centers for at-risk youth and families
