Diocese of Joliet Appoints Gregory N. Porod as Superintendent of Catholic Schools
Gregory N. Porod
The Diocese of Joliet has appointed Gregory N. Porod as Superintendent of Catholic Schools, effective June 29, 2026. A veteran educator and administrator with more than four decades of experience in both public and Catholic education, Porod will lead the Diocese’s 47 Catholic elementary schools and high schools in advancing their mission of forming disciples and delivering academic excellence.
Porod succeeds Dr. James Quaid, who has served as superintendent for the past three years. The Diocese is grateful for Dr. Quaid’s leadership, particularly his work in strengthening academic programs and supporting school principals across the region.
Porod currently serves as principal of St. Cletus Parish School in LaGrange, Illinois. Over his career, he has led three schools as principal, earned a K–12 Administrative Superintendent license, and built a reputation for collaborative leadership and strong school culture. In 2018, he was named Principal of the Year for the South Cook Region by the Illinois Principals Association, recognizing his impact and the respect he has earned among educators statewide.
Bishop Dennis E. Spies, Apostolic Administrator for the Diocese of Joliet, welcomed Porod’s appointment saying, “Catholic schools are one of the Church’s most important ministries for forming disciples of Jesus. Greg brings a wealth of experience, a heart for mission, and a proven record of leadership to help strengthen our schools and support the families who entrust their children to us each day.”
Porod said he is honored to serve the Diocese in this role. “I am grateful and humbled that the Spirit has led me to serve as Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Joliet. Catholic schools provide both the spiritual and academic foundation for our students to become scholars and saints. As Pope Benedict XVI once said, ‘A good school provides a rounded education for the whole person. And a good Catholic school… should help all its students to become saints.’”
Peter J. Tamosaitis, chief operating officer for the Diocese of Joliet, said Porod’s leadership will help advance the Diocese’s long-term vision for its schools. “Greg’s experience and commitment to Catholic education make him exceptionally well suited to guide our school system. His vision reflects our shared belief that Catholic schools are vital to the life of the Church our communities. Under his leadership, we will continue to advance academic excellence, deepen Catholic identity, and improve the vitality of our schools across the Diocese.”
